Contact Opt In Status Explained

Updated: January 30th, 2018

In this article, we will explain the 4 different contact opt-in statuses: unsubscribed, non-marketable, unconfirmed, and subscriber.

Video Overview

Unsubscribed

Contacts will have their opt-in status set to unsubscribed when they reply with the command STOP, QUIT, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL or END to a text message they received.

Unsubscribed contacts can not receive text messages.

Non-Marketable

All new contacts added to MOBIT manually, via a form submission, or Infusionsoft will have their opt-in status set to non-marketable unless their countries double opt-in process is bypassed, which will result in them becoming subscribers.

Non-marketable contacts will not be sent text messages unless the checkbox 'send an opt-in text to contacts that are not currently subscribers' is selected inside your send a text action.

Unconfirmed

If a contact has an unconfirmed opt-in status, they have previously received an opt-in text but did not complete the double opt-in process by replying YES. You do not have permission to send future messages to these contacts.

The opt-in status of a contact will be set to unconfirmed when:

1* - A contact achieves a keyword received goal.

2* - A contact submits an opt-in form.

3* - A contact achieves a goal that triggers a send a text action, where the option has been selected to send an opt-in text to contacts that are not currently subscribers.

4* - A contact that has a non-marketable opt-in status is sent a text message manually from contacts section, where the option has been selected to send an opt-in text to contacts that are not currently subscribers.

*If the double opt-in process has been bypassed for the contacts country, they will have their opt-in status set to a subscriber, not unconfirmed.

When you try to send a text message to a contact with an unconfirmed opt-in status, they will not receive any text messages unless the checkbox 'send an opt-in text to contacts that are not currently subscribers' has been selected inside your send a text action.

From this functional perspective, non-marketable and unconfirmed opt-in status is similar.

Subscriber

The opt-in status of a contact will be set to subscriber when:

1 - A contact achieves a keyword received goal, and the send a text action added off the goal follows a single opt-in process.

2 - A contact achieves an opt-in form submitted goal, and the send a text a text action added off the goal follows a single opt-in process.

3 - A contact is added or updated in MOBIT when a CSV file is imported, and their countries double opt-in process has been bypassed.

4 - A contact is added manually in MOBIT, and their countries double opt-in process has been bypassed.

5 - A contact is added in MOBIT via Infusionsoft, and their countries double opt-in process has been bypassed.

6 - A send a text action is triggered by a contact that has a non-marketable or unconfirmed opt-in status, and their countries double opt-in process has been bypassed.

7 - A contact that has a non-marketable opt-in status is sent a text message manually from contacts section, and their countries double opt-in process has been bypassed.

8 - When a contact replies YES to the opt-in text.

If a contact is not a subscriber when they are manually sent a text from the contacts section, or achieve a goal that triggers a send a text action, they will receive the confirmation text. If a confirmation text is not set up, they will instead receive the subscriber text.

The opposite happens for contacts that are already subscribers when they are manually sent a text from the contacts section, or achieve a goal that triggers a send a text action. Unless the subscriber text has not been set up, they will always receive the subscriber text over the confirmation text.
