MOBIT currently only supports the use of GSM characters in text messages. All other characters will be stripped out of your text message before it is sent. In this article, we explain the different types of text messages, standard and unicode, and provide you with a list of support characters.

A text message is classed as either a standard or unicode message based on the type of characters it contains:

• Standard messages contain characters from the GSM basic character set, which is listed below. The GSM character set contains the letters of the English alphabet, digits and some special characters, including a few Greek ones.
• Unicode messages contain characters that aren’t in the GSM basic character set. The Unicode character set contains characters symbols from alphabets such as Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Korean and more, along with special characters and symbols such as emoji, emoticons and kanji.

As mentioned above, MOBIT currently does not allow you to send unicode characters in your text message. If they are found in your text message, they will be removed from your text message.

Supported Characters

The follow list contains the characters that can be used in a text message. This list is known as the GSM basic character set.
