About The Opt-In Text

Updated: November 23rd, 2016

In MOBIT, there are three different types of text messages: the opt-in, confirmation, and subscriber text. In this article, we will explain the opt-in text, who it is received by, where it is set up and its requirements.

About

Unless the double opt-in process has been bypassed, contacts that are not currently subscribers, who have a non-marketable or unconfirmed opt-in status will receive the opt-in text.

The opt-in text is a fundamental component of a double opt-in process, which must be adhered to in the US and sometimes Canada (click here to learn more). A double opt-in process is where a user must take affirmative action after their initial opt-in request to confirm their desire to opt-in.

The opt-in text should prompt recipients to reply YES and may also need to include other disclosures, which are outlined in the requirements section. After a recipient replies YES, MOBIT will convert the contact to a subscriber and send the confirmation text.

Set Up

There are three different places where you will be asked to set up your opt-in text in MOBIT.

1 - Send a text actions added of keyword received and opt-in form submitted goals that follow a double opt-in process

2 - Send a text actions added of goals (excluding keyword received and opt-in form submitted goals), timers (field, date, and delay) and response goals, where the option has been selected to send an opt-in text to contacts that are not currently subscribers.

3 - When a text message is manually sent to a contact, and the option has been selected to send a text to contacts that are not currently subscribers.

Requirements

US

In the US, your opt-in text should contain your company name, a command to confirm their opt-in (Reply YES...) and the disclosure "You will receive periodic text messages delivered via automated technology. Your consent is not required for purchase". This disclosure is used to obtain prior express written consent, which is required under the TCPA. The CTIA also specifies that your message includes an opt-out mechanism i.e. Reply STOP to cancel. For example:

"COMPANY NAME: Reply YES to subscribe to mobile alerts. You will receive periodic text messages delivered via automated technology. Your consent is not required for purchase. Reply STOP to cancel."

Canada

  • Your business name
  • A command to confirm their opt-in (Reply YES)
  • The disclosure that Std msg & data rates may apply
  • An unsubscribe mechanism, for example, "Reply STOP to cancel"

For example:

"COMPANY NAME: Reply YES to subscribe to mobile alerts. Std msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel."
